Green Roof Installation

Extensive green roof system. Should be green in flourishing by the end of the summer

Green Roof Benefits

John D. Hughes Construction, Inc. has spent the last year learning more about the benefits of green roofs and the different methods of installation. Give us call to learn more about how a green roof could benefit you.

Energy Conservation
Green roofs provide additional insulation for the building and decrease heating and cooling loads. In the summer, green roofs can decrease temperatures, thus helping to reduce the "urban heat-island effect."

Stormwater Management
A green roof reduces storm-water run-off from 70 to 90 percent. The roof also delays run-off and filters toxins and pollutants from the run-off. This will lead to a reduction in the number of combined sewer overflows and minimizes the amount of land needed for development.

Environmental Enhancement
A green roof incoroporates Green infrastructure in the built environment while improving outdoor air quality by absorbing greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide. It also provides valuable space for the plant and wildlife habitat that has been displaced by building.

Resource Conservation
A green roof lasts twice as long as a conventional roof, saving replacement costs and materials. It also utilizes recycled materials such as synthetic fabrics.

Green roofs reduce regular maintenance costs and extend the service life of the waterproofing membrane. According to a study in Germany, a vegetated roof on average can be expected to prolong the service life of a conventional roof by at least 20 years.
